ALL these songs (actually written many years ago...) originally as a Communion Service - for Children/ Youth; a lesson in music told through the eyes of young people... about: the night JESUS was betrayed... His trial, His crucifixion... His resurrection.
ALL these songs are sung in congregations (African American; Latino; and Asian) with slight modifications to tempos and gospel music styles found... even in other countries.

I acknowledge that some themes of these songs are more challenging and perhaps better suited for older kids. Having spent a professional career in education, every year I enjoyed hearing students comment how they appreciated being treated like young adults. When children sing these truths of God, oftentimes we hear even from adults who say: now, I understand.
MORE SONGS FOR LITTLE FOLKS
The following songs are written for the littlest kids; and since children need to learn to get along with each other, these songs are not intended as solos. But get creative: every verse can be divided up in groups: girls and boys; by dynamics: loud parts and soft part; who sings the first divided section? the group that can memorize a verse first.
In many countries from Indonesia to India; from Kenya to Mexico and other places; those who do not have the resources we have in America: we sponsor Bible memorization... kid's learning whole chapters by memory. It's wonderful getting kids to help one another to learn Bible truths. No need for solos!

THERE IS A GREEN HILL FAR AWAY
-- Actually, this is first church hymn I remember learning in elementary school (maybe 3rd or 4th grade). Part of the old hymn always sounded awkward, so I rewrote it a few years ago, and now even one of the large African American congregations in town sings it!
And you will notice, I often use the word "Thy". I figure, if the LORD puts up with all our "Me's" and "My's" that HE has to listen to all the live long day... we can teach our kids to sing an occasional "Thy", right?!
The Prophet Amos wrote: Take away the noise of your songs -- Amos 5; next year we will probably remove this from our list, as our nation's government has become overly swamped with thugs and criminals and thieves, swiftly hurrying the curse, the Wrath of God on our nation; and all the singing in the world won't change it:
DOCUMENTARY: THOSE of ancient ROME mentality (those who have no king but caesar) WHO ARE BEHIND EVERY MAJOR EVENT IN RECENT YEARS -- So this IS what prophet Daniel warned us about... part of the LAST BEAST GOVT smashing and destroying until the whole world is broken.
The night Jesus was betrayed, He said: By this, all shall know that you are My disciples... If you have love, one for another! Do not apologize for what Jesus said, just because wolves in sheep's clothing say they come in His name. The hallmark of the Lord Jesus Christ is His great love for His Father, and for those who follow Him! Jesus gave His life for individuals; not for institutions or nations. Any nation, including ours... which no longer has a majority who follow the Lord, which turns from trusting the Lord may have 21st century policies that resemble the murderous roman crusades well, that's not MY govt I'm ruled by God - prophet Daniel told us about that last beast: read Daniel 2, 7 and 8. Clearly, don't join them... Come out of her, and don't delay; the Lord will take care of them! They are the same ones who demonize Russia, who want us to demonize Russia, too; but we need to remind one another that next to the United States, Russia is the 2nd largest country of Christians: our brothers and sisters who faithfully follow the Lord Jesus.

The night of Katrina 2005, I sat down to the piano and did this arrangement, as my prayer to the Lord for the impending storm; this is the only song I sang as a solo in Dr. Gene Scott's congregation; I found it the other day; we in the church know a greater storm in approaching - it is not a time of fear, it is a time to take our stand; and Edward Mote's words 1834, and William Bradbury's music 1863 couldn't be more appropriate.

Due to the nature of creativity, most of songs are committed to heart instead of singers holding papers: so many songs are sung: but not musically scored. If these pdf files disappear from this section, it means time was found to write out the music. For now, they are mental notes: simply put online to share with our many music educator friends.?
FOOT NOTE - We have over 30 hymns (written in the 1800s) that have been brushed off and refreshed for the 21st Century... in order to preserve the truth of these uniquely Christian songs. Being literally the last person to graduate from USC with an undergraduate degree in Church Music, I have always been challenged by church musicians who aren't creative?! (at the same time, being challenged by non-church musicians asking why I waste my time - though they wouldn't have a job if they weren't playing at a church program!!).
We all noticed hymnals disappearing, being stuffed away on shelves... no longer available to many congregations, their truth being lost to this generation. And what is the replacement? Little teams of wonderful, smiling singers, whom you get the impression would love to "make it in Hollywood" given the chance... while the congregation looks on and tepidly applauds; producing non-participation at its finest!
So we are working on how to present the great Hymns of the Faith. Keep checking back.
